VW launches ID. 4 and ID. 5 electric SUVs

VOLKSWAGEN AUSTRALIA IS LAUNCHING the ID. 4 and ID. 5 with a simple premise – these are simply better electric SUVs – backed by ultra-competitive recommended retail pricing from $59,990 (ID. 4 Pro) to $72,990 (ID. 5 GTX), plus on road costs.

The Volkswagen ID. 4 and ID. 5 offer trademark German quality and engineering, plus pricing and features highly competitive with unknown brands and top 10 brand BEVs.

Standard equipment includes IQ.LIGHT Matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam, 3D LED rear lights with dynamic indicators, keyless access, power tailgate, panoramic roof with electric blind, ArtVelours microfleece upholstery, power adjustable front seats with memory and massage function, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control air conditioning, 12.9-inch infotainment with App-Connect and Area View 360-degree camera.

Highly acclaimed for its secure and unobtrusive driver assistance technology, Volkswagen’s Travel Assist combining Adaptive Cruise Control with active Lane Assist is also standard, along with Side Assist, Emergency Assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning and swerve support, proactive passenger protection system and front/rear parking sensors.

Mode 2 and 3 cables are included, with GoConnect app connectivity providing functions such as live technical status, state of charge and vehicle location.

Both the ID. 4 Pro and ID. 5 GTX are simply better for Australian drivers who for decades have made the performance-focused Tiguans – currently the 162TSI – by far the most popular Volkswagen medium SUV.

The Pro delivers 210kW of power and 545Nm of torque, rear-wheel drive, Sport electronic stability control (ESC) function, 19-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive Chassis Control adaptive suspension and progressive steering.

Zero to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds is three-tenths of a second faster than the Tiguan 162TSI. The current Tiguan 162TSI R-Line is $60,590 with comparable equipment, reinforcing Volkswagen’s simply better level of choice – choose ICE or BEV, at around the same price.

With up to 544km range (WLTP), the ID. 4 Pro exceeds that of comparable rivals.

The GTX delivers 250kW and the sporting prowess of 4MOTION all-wheel drive still strongly favouring a rear-drive bias plus the added grip of a 20-inch wheel and tyre package.

Zero to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds combines with 522km WLTP range.

The ID. 5 GTX – in addition to a sportier coupe-style profile – features sports seats with integrated headrests and 480-Watt 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio as standard.

Both the ID. 4 Pro and ID. 5 GTX are simply better for support with 100 dealers nationwide, charging available at 90+ dealers, 24-month service intervals with Care Plans, and discounts on home and on-road charging via partners Ampol –as part of Volkswagen Group’s Australia-wide On EV ownership programme.

Together with extensive driving range on a single charge, the ID. 4 and ID. 5 are perfectly suited for a Christmas trip to visit grandparents in the country, as many Australian families do.

Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles director Piergiorgio Minto said the focus of the ID. 4 and ID. 5 is to launch these fully electric medium SUVs as better value, better engineered and better backed than existing rivals.

“We said recently that we were driving hard to achieve the best position for ID. 4 and ID. 5,” Mr Minto said.

“Volkswagen is delivering on that promise with high specification for the price, higher outputs and longer range than most rivals, with the pedigree of German engineering and the local focus on making BEV ownership easy.

“As the only brand that has consistently made performance petrol SUVs available to customers, the ID. 4 Pro and ID. 5 GTX now speak directly to Tiguan customers and SUV customers with BEV and petrol pricing aligned. Whether refuelled or recharged, Volkswagen has a leading SUV available.”

The Volkswagen ID. 4 Pro and ID. 5 GTX will make their public debut at the Everything Electric fair at Sydney Olympic Park on March 7-9, with customer test drives available ahead of first deliveries around mid-2025. From July the ID. 4 GTX and ID. 5 Pro will also join the range.

This follows Volkswagen Australia’s Guinness World Record set in September 2024, introducing Australia to its latest fully electric SUV.

An ID. 4 GTX driven by German endurance specialists Rainer Zietlow and Marius Biela created the world’s largest GPS drawing made by a BEV.

The team inscribed “70 years of VeeDub” over Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory – an uninterrupted 23,849km journey that involved charging in outback regions where BEVs are seldom, if ever, seen.

“Sand, snow and flooding rain – in few countries are such a challenging diversity of conditions encountered at the same time of year,” Mr Minto said.

“Rainer’s personal ID. 4 GTX combines the key aspects of the two electric SUVs Volkswagen is introducing. The fact that this vehicle had been driven more than 50,000km even before it performed this latest feat reminds customers that Volkswagen offers the highest quality, durability, range capability and a nationwide network to support them.”
