Hyundai releases preliminary specs for i20 N and Kona N

HYUNDAI’S PERFORMANCE RANGE, the N models, continues to grow, and win fans across the country.

The two latest additions are the all-new i20 N and all-new KONA N, with both models set to launch locally in 2021.

i20 N

A racetrack capable hot hatch inspired by the i20 WRC rally car, the all-new i20 N will be the accessible entry point to the Hyundai high performance N range. It is powered by a new generation 1.6-litre turbo GDi engine with 150kW and 275Nm (304Nm with Overboost function activated), paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Punchy engine, light weight … always a great combination

The engine offers a flat power tune, which ensures high responsiveness and improved acceleration for even more fun on the road or track. Flat power provides more torque and power at lower rpm, thereby utilising more of the engine’s potential in everyday driving.

The all-new i20 N maintains maximum torque between 1750 and 4500 rpm, and achieves maximum power between 5500 and 6000 rpm. This improves acceleration in the mid- and high-speed range and delivers consistent high performance in a variety of driving conditions.

Weighing in at just 1213kg, the i20 N’s power-to-weight ratio is one of the best in class. It has a maximum speed of 230km/h and the 0 to 100km/h time is 6.2 seconds.

The i20 N is sure to appear on racetracks around the country

Meanwhile, the six-speed manual transmission has been refined and reinforced to cope with higher rpm, torque and Launch Control, to give its drivers a dynamically immersive driving experience.

The all-new i20 N also comes equipped with the N Corner Carving Differential, a Mechanical Limited Slip Differential (m LSD) that utilises a mechanically controlled Torsion gear type to control the power transfer to the front wheels. It provides optimum traction and enhances grip on every corner for sportier and more agile handling.

Proper hot hatch interior

The i20 N will be offered as a single, feature packed variant, and will go on sale locally in Q4 priced at $32,490 (plus on road costs).

Kona N

Hyundai takes SUV high performance up a notch with the all-new Kona N, a true hot SUV.

Kona N is not only the latest addition to Hyundai’s growing high-performance N line-up but is also the first N model with an SUV body style. It offers a winning combination of versatility, spirited acceleration, agility and racetrack readiness.

All-new Kona N is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged GDi engine paired exclusively with Hyundai’s N DCT, an enhanced version of the in-house developed eight-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission.

The powertrain delivers a maximum output of 206kW and 392Nm. With N Grin Shift, the power is enhanced to 213kW, maximising driving fun.

The engine offers a flat power tune that ensures high responsiveness and improved acceleration for even more fun on the road or on the racetrack, thereby utilising more of the engine’s potential. Kona N has a maximum speed of 240km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, when Launch Control is activated.

Buy it for the performance, keep it for the practicality

Kona N also features Hyundai’s N Corner Carving Differential, an electronic limited slip differential (E-LSD) for controlling torque distribution to the front driving wheels.

Standard racetrack ready equipped on the Kona N includes 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance brakes and Pirelli tires.

For Australia, Kona N will be offered in two trim levels and will go on sale locally in Q3, priced from $47,500 plus on road costs.
