More M models from BMW

AUSTRALIA IS AN ODD market in that we tend to buy more of the performance variants (per capita, we buy more AMG Mercedes-Benz models than anyone else; the Golf GTI outsells lesser models here but nowhere else in the world, Audi RS models are the first choice of many buyers and BMW M models sell strongly, despite their price premium).

To take advantage of this uniquely Australian characteristic, BMW Australia has announced further additions to its range of high performance M vehicles with introduction of the all-new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition models in Q2, 2020.

Pay your money, choose your rear end

The third generation BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition combine power and performance with exceptional versatility and practicality.

Both models feature modern, luxurious and generous proportions, including the signature BMW M kidney grille with black double bars along with matching M gills, exterior mirror caps, diffuser trim in the rear apron and exhaust pipes in black.

The new BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M Competition are both powered by a 4.4-litre M TwinPower turbocharged V8 petrol engine that helps deliver the standard sprint in a quick 3.8 seconds.

Power is delivered instantaneously through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic which permits gearshift characteristics to be adjusted via the Drivelogic button on the M-specific selector lever. For added control, manual gear shifting is available via M shift paddles on the steering wheel.

This is the sensible one …

In addition, the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and Active M Differential produce rear-wheel bias driving dynamics and work cohesively together to create agile, performance-focused handling.

Specifically-tuned M chassis and suspension geometry further rasie the all-round capability of the BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition. A combination of stiff suspension mountings, enhanced camber values and continual electronic damper adjustment at each wheel allow for spirited cornering or comfortable touring drives.

Compound brakes with integrated braking system offer significant stopping power through the fusion of brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a single compact module. The electronic actuator regulates brake pressure to suit the driving environment and maintains superb pedal feel.

… this one not so much

Condition Based Servicing

All maintenance requirements for the BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition are controlled by the Condition Based Servicing (CBS) system.

With CBS, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which a vehicle is used, including mileage, time elapsed since its last service, fuel consumption and how a vehicle is driven. Based on the information captured, maintenance requirements are determined, identifying whether an annual vehicle inspection or oil service is due.

Selected BMW service and maintenance costs can be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with BMW Service Inclusive (BSI), which is available in two packages: Basic or Plus.

Once we have tested and assessed the new BMW X5M and X6 Competition, seniordriveraus will bring you a comprehensive review, including everything the over-50 driver needs to know.
