TOYOTA’S UPGRADED GR86 TWO-DOOR SPORTS CAR range will arrive in Australian showrooms in December, headlined by the new GR86 Limited Edition variant which is distinguished by unique, classic design touches.
The Limited Edition is priced from $49,600 plus on-road costs and tops the sharply priced GR86 range, which continues to offer customers one of the most accessible entry points to the sports car segment.
Multiple mechanical and dynamic enhancements were implemented across the GR86 range, based on feedback from professional motorsport drivers, with the range-opening GT variant retaining its $43,240 price tag it has held since its launch in 2022.
Likewise, the more highly-specified GTS also retains its 2022 launch price at $45,390, which can be augmented with the Dynamic Performance Pack for $2200.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the GR86 Limited Edition would make the responsive and lightweight coupe even more desirable.
“The GR86 has always exhibited a visual flair, and the Limited Edition is the perfect blend of style and substance with its unique paint colour, bronze alloys and tan interior evoking classic sports cars,” he said.
“With a raft of mechanical upgrades that make it even more dynamic at no extra cost, the GR86 has never been more desirable than it is now.”
Limited to a run of 86 units, the GR86 Limited Edition is based on the top-of-the-range GTS with Dynamic Performance Pack and stands out from the crowd with its unique Forest Shadow exterior colour inspired by classic sports cars.
The stylish Forest Shadow colour is paired with bronze 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, while the classic theme continues inside with combination leather accented and black Ultrasuede upholstery featuring tan leather accented seat accents and tan-coloured stitching on the seats, shift lever, handbrake, steering wheel and door trims.
The Limited Edition also benefits from the standard inclusion of the GTS Dynamic Performance Pack, which offers ZF Sachs sports dampers to improve both on-road ride comfort and handling in dynamic situations, while stopping power is bolstered by stylish red-painted Brembo brakes.
Four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo calipers double the piston count of the GTS’ standard brakes, providing significant benefits to safety and performance – perfect for track-day situations.
Like the GT and GTS, the GR86 Limited Edition is available with the choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
All new GR86 variants benefit from multiple engineering upgrades aimed at further improving the coupe’s already focussed dynamic abilities, with the changes spurred by feedback from professional racing drivers.
The 2.4-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder petrol engine that underpins all GR86 variants has been revised to offer greater throttle response with more linear power delivery thanks to a revised throttle map. Shock reduction has also been achieved by eliminating the engine’s ignition delay control.
Automatic variants are now able to manually downshift at a higher rpm, providing greater control for the driver, improved power delivery, and a more exhilarating engine sound.
The responsive and rev-happy 2.4-litre engine develops 174kW of power and 250Nm of torque, channelling power to the rear wheels with the assistance of a standard limited-slip differential to offer an incredibly engaging driving experience.
The shock absorbers and electric power steering have also been retuned to improve handling response with a more direct feel, furthering the dynamic capabilities of the GR86.
