GM stands by large pickup trucks in Australia

THERE HAS BEEN QUITE AN outcry against large pickup trucks like the RAM, Silverado and the coming Toyota Tundra. People think they aren’t suitable for Australian roads and conditions. Criticism has centred around the safety of other road users – pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other cars and utes.

But General Motors isn’t backing down and will continue to offer large pickup trucks and heavy-duty commercial vehicles in the Australian market.

GM Australia and NZ managing director Jess Bala believes they are simply meeting the demands and requirements of some Australian customers.

The sale of its 10,000th Silverado is seen as a huge milestone for both GM and its remanufacturing partner, Walkinshaw.

Sales of the Silverado 1500 are up 29 percent and the 2500 Heavy Duty is also up, by 16 percent.
