BMW AUSTRALIA WILL INTRODUCE THE updated and enhanced BMW 2 Series Coupé to the local market later this year (and for some unknown reason, all the publicity shots bar one were portrait instead of landscape).
A host of revisions have been applied that add further appeal to the latest generation of a model that continues to strike a chord with Australian customers. To the end of June this year, there have been 900 registrations of the BMW 2 Series Coupé, which marks an 86 percent increase on the same period in 2023.
BMW Australia will continue its two-variant approach for the 2 Series Coupé. The line-up includes the 230i – powered by an in-line four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine developing 190kW and 400Nm – and the flagship performance M240i xDrive, which has a segment-unique straight-six TwinPower Turbo powerplant that produces 285kW and 500Nm.
The model updates begin with tweaks to the exterior styling package and M Sport Package, which is already standard on the Australian-delivered BMW 2 Series Coupé.
The side skirts and the lower part of the rear apron are now finished in the body colour of the vehicle, replacing black. The diffuser insert meanwhile is in high-gloss black to provide a contrasting effect at the rear.
The M240i xDrive has its own version of the M-specific design features. In complement to its array of aggressive elements that already deliver a commanding road presence, the exterior mirror caps are now finished in high-gloss black. An M badge in the lower air intake exemplifies the M240i xDrive’s position as a member of the BMW M family.
M high-gloss Shadowline is now also part of the standard equipment roster for both variants and brings a premium touch to the overall aesthetic.
New paint colours are now available for customers to personalise their 2 Series Coupé, with Fire Red metallic and Skyscraper Grey added to the portfolio. Zandvoort Blue, which was previously reserved for the high-performance BMW M2 Coupé, is now available for the BMW M240i xDrive.
In addition, new 19-inch double-spoke M light-alloy wheels are available in either Jet Black or Bicolour finish to add further dynamism to the exterior styling.
The headline change to the interior is the integration of BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect. This provides intuitive and rapid control of functions, such as air conditioning and seat and steering wheel heating.
This is accompanied by a further reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit and a corresponding redesign of the instrument panel. New control knobs on the air vents in the centre of the dashboard and on the driver’s and passenger’s side allow the direction of the airflow to be adjusted by turning and tilting.
Standard fitment ambient lighting also includes new waterfall lighting integrated into the covers of the central air vents. The colour and brightness of the waterfall lighting can be adjusted to suit individual preferences, with nine colour themes.
Other detail changes to the cabin include new M leather steering wheel with a flat bottom, precisely modified spokes and discreet centre markings. The performance focus of the M240i xDrive is underlined by a red centre marker at the 12 o’clock position and contrasting stitching in the distinctive colours of BMW M GmbH.
New upholstery choices across the 2 Series Coupé will be available to customise the vehicle interior. Sensatec upholstery on Sport seats will now be standard on the 230i, while M Sport seats upholstered in ‘Vernasca’ leather will be standard on the M240i xDrive.
A new black version of Vernasca leather trim that features red accents further expands the seat upholstery selections.
Interior ambience can be elevated with new trims. As an alternative to the M fine-brushed Aluminium, customers can also choose M Carbon Fibre for a motorsport feeling.
There is also now the option to add “CraftedClarity” glass applications for the gear selector, BMW Controller and the start/stop button to provide a premium look and feel.
