Toyota Australia has today announced that it will initiate a safety recall involving Yaris and Yaris Cross vehicles produced between October 2019 to September 2020 (inclusive). The total number of vehicles involved in Australia is 1295. Also announced is a recall involving Yaris Cross vehicles produced between April 2020 to October 2020 (inclusive). The total number of vehicles involved in Australia is 2341.
Within the hybrid transmission of involved Yaris and Yaris Cross vehicles, an improper application of anti-corrosion oil on the transmission input damper may cause abnormal slippage during rapid acceleration. This may cause the warning light to illuminate and subsequently, potentially cause the hybrid system to stop.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace the input damper free of charge to customers.
It is expected that it will take approximately 8.5 hours to replace the input damper. However, depending upon the Dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary for the owner to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.
The other issue requiring a recall of Yaris Cross vehicles relates to the rear centre seatbelt.
In the rear centre seat, there is a possibility that the seatbelt may be damaged by the sharp edge of the metal seat belt anchor bracket during the impact of a collision, due to improper manufacturing of the bracket. If this were to occur, in the worst case, the seatbelt may be broken and not properly restrain the occupant.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will add protective material to the rear centre seat belt anchor bracket free of charge.
It is expected that it will take approximately 30 minutes to add the protective material. However, depending upon the Dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary for the owner to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.
