More space, more technology in new Audi Q3

THE AUDI Q3 has proven remarkably successful in the premium compact SUV category, and Audi is no doubt hoping this success will continue with the new, second-generation model that has arrived seven years after the original launched.

The original Audi Q3 broke new ground in the premium compact SUV segment, when it arrived in Australia in 2012. Throughout its lifetime, it was one of the most popular vehicles in its class.

The all-new second-generation Audi is bigger in almost all dimensions and, together with a 77mm longer wheelbase, offers significantly more interior space for occupants. The rear seat can be split 40:20:40, and slides fore/aft in a 150mm range. Boot space has increased by 70 litres, now up to 530 litres (1525 litres with the rear seats folded flat).

Many colours, many wheel choices

Infotainment and connectivity are real strengths of the new Q3, with several innovations that set it apart from its closest competitors. High-value Audi features like the virtual cockpit, MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, DAB+ digital radio, natural language voice control and both USB-A and USB-C charging points front and rear are just the start.

Wireless functionality is another area where the all-new Audi Q3 has been improved, equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay technology (there was no mention of Android Auto – but we checked and the Q3 is definitely compatible with both), as well as Audi phone box light with wireless smartphone charging, dual simultaneous Bluetooth phone connection and also the innovative convenience of Audi connect plus.

“The all-new Audi Q3 will make a bold impression on the premium compact SUV segment in its second-generation,” said Shawn Ticehurst, Director of Product Planning & Pricing at Audi Australia.

“The previous generation Q3 was still very popular until we sold out at the beginning of this year, and so the arrival of this new model has been long-awaited. It’s substantially bigger and is almost two generations ahead in terms of technology. We are very confident that the all-new Q3 will help return Audi to leadership of this segment, with further variants to come throughout 2020.”

A practical design, and stylish too

The new Q3 also carries all the DNA of the latest Audi design language, with the iconic Singleframe grille at the front surrounded by an array of air inlets and styling elements. Adaptive LED headlights feature as standard on the Q3, bringing a familiar sense of lighting sophistication that Audi is famous for. The quattro blisters and athletic shoulder line give the Q3 a nicely balanced stance on the road, especially in a category that tends to be a little bland, finished off by raked D-pillar and long roof spoiler that gives the rear a distinctively dynamic look. Dynamic LED taillights complete the exterior lighting package.

The all-new Audi Q3 has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, and comes equipped with an extensive array of driver assistance safety systems, like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with cyclist and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic assist, tyre pressure monitors, hill descent control, as well as a comprehensive suite of parking sensors and rear view camera. The Q3 is equipped with six airbags.

At market launch, the all-new Audi Q3 is available exclusively as the 35 TFSI model, powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110kW and 250Nm, mated to the smooth-shifting six-speed S tronic transmission. The Q3 reaches 100km/h from rest in 9.2 seconds, returning 7.2L/100km. CO2 emissions are 164 grams per km.

Only one engine being offered initially
