MITSUBISHI’S NEW OUTLANDER has revitalised itself with a more stylish appearance and still offering good value for your dollar.
Now Mitsubishi Motors Australia (MMAL) has announced new 23MY updates for the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV (PHEV).
“Following the success of its launch in August 2022 the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV is proving to be an immensely popular option for Australians looking to travel, without having to worry about range or infrastructure,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO, Shaun Westcott.
“The Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV receives some luxurious updates and key safety enhancements for 23MY, to ensure it can continue to be the vehicle of choice for those looking to adventure with a smaller carbon footprint,” he said.
Outlander PHEV ES gains safety enhancements as standard
The entry grade ES will continue as part of the 23MY Outlander PHEV range, with some key safety updates, including:
- Automatic High Beam
- Automatic Rear Braking
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Flagship Outlander Exceed and Exceed Tourer receive heated steering wheel
From 23MY, both Outlander PHEV Exceed and Exceed Tourer grades feature a heated steering wheel as standard.
This can easily be activated via a button on the HVAC control panel and functions by cycling on and off for a 30-minute period to maintain a wheel temperature above 20 degrees.
The Exceed Tourer also gains heated second-row seating for 23MY, in addition to the familiar front-row seat heating from the 2022 model year.
The luxurious 23MY Outlander PHEV Exceed and Exceed Tourer variants will also receive an enhanced lighting signature, with sequential LED front indicators.
Outlander Exceed Tourer also offers new two-tone exterior paint combinations. Joining the existing White Diamond/Black Mica and Black Diamond/Deep Bronze finishes are Stirling Silver/Black Mica and Titanium/Black Mica.
Due to ongoing semi-conductor shortages, the Exceed and Exceed Tourer’s previous auto-tilt side mirror function has been discontinued.
Braking updates: All grades to receive rear AEB trailer connection over-ride and EPB Auto Hold memory function
All 23MY Outlander PHEVs will receive rear AEB trailer connection over-ride as a standard feature. When the Outlander PHEV is fitted with a genuine Mitsubishi trailer and harness package, it will automatically disengage the rear AEB, to prevent unwanted braking when reversing a trailer.
From 23MY, Outlander PHEVs will also receive updates to the Electric Park Brake (EPB) Auto Hold Function, which allows it to store the driver’s parking brake engagement preference (automatic or manual).
MI-PILOT Advanced safety system for Outlander PHEV Exceed and Exceed Tourer
Mitsubishi’s MI-PILOT driving assistant makes its debut on the 23MY Outlander Exceed and Exceed Tourer variants, and is available with the internal combustion engine range or the PHEV drivetrain.
MI-PILOT brings additional functionality to the vehicle’s Adaptive Cruise Control system. The Lane Keep Assist system introduces steering control assistance, which can help to retain the vehicle within its lane while driving.
Lane Keep Assist can be activated when travelling over 60km/h or when a vehicle is detected in front travelling under 60km/h.
MI-PILOT also includes Traffic Jam Assist, which expands the Adaptive Cruise Control’s functionality to allow its re-engagement after coming to a complete stop.
MI-PILOT also features Speed Limit Assistance using Traffic Sign Recognition. This prompts automatic adjustment to changing speed zones with one touch, when Adaptive Cruise Control is engaged.
To ensure safe operation, the steering wheel now features touch sensors to allow MI-PILOT engagement. MI-PILOT will disengage when the driver’s grip is not detected; when turn signals are engaged, or when windscreen wipers are continuously operated in their highest speed.

The 23MY Outlander PHEV exterior colour palette offers the aforementioned new options for Exceed Tourer, with all other 2022 exterior finishes continuing for 2023.

Super-All Wheel Control, with front and rear electric motors
The Outlander PHEV range combines front and rear electric motors with a 2.4-litre petrol engine. The ICE generates 98kW at 5000rpm and 195Nm at 4300rpm.
The combination of front and rear electric motors, as well as the combustion engine’s ability to act as a generator or drive the front wheels, offers the Outlander PHEV with a wide breadth of capability, as well as Super-All Wheel Control all-wheel drive.
The Outlander PHEV front motor produces 85kW/255Nm, whilst the rear motor outputs 100kW/195Nm.
Combined, the 23MY Outlander PHEV powertrain produces up to 185kW/450Nm, and this is transmitted via a single speed transaxle. Combined ADR 81/02 fuel consumption is rated at 1.5L/100km.
The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV has a fully electric range of 84km and combined range of over 800km. This gives the consumer the option to commute in pure EV mode, while using the ICE on longer trips without range anxiety.

All Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV models benefit from a range of passive and active safety features, including airbags to the front and side for both the driver and front passenger, curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.
