Mazda updates popular CX-9

THE POPULARITY OF SUVs shows no signs of abating, and one of the most successful on the local market is Mazda’s CX-9

Mazda Australia has today announced a series of updates to the CX-9 large SUV, on sale now.

The new model adds advanced dynamics technology, boosts safety, comfort and functionality, and trim changes that enhance its appeal.

Mazda’s big SUV has been very popular

Reinforcing Mazda’s human-centric design approach, Mazda CX-9 adds G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus). Building on the existing function of GVC, GVC Plus uses brake control to help stabilise and return the vehicle to straight-line running when coming out of a turn. The result is steering that is not only safer but also provides a more connected feeling.

Further enhancing the driving experience, the all-wheel-drive system adds the latest iteration of Mazda’s Off-Road Traction Assist, which makes driving easier on undulating roads, preventing tyre slip.

The CX-9 gets the new key as supplied with other Mazda models

Safety and peace of mind when driving at night are improved with the addition of an advanced automatic braking system that detects pedestrians in the dark.  Plus, improved Adaptive LED Headlights offer great visibility without dazzling other road users.

All models also add Auto-hold function to the Electric Parking Brake, which holds the vehicle stopped, even if you’ve taken your foot off the brake.

Small enhancements make the CX-9 even more appealing

Everyday passenger usage and convenience has been improved with the addition a hands-free tailgate that allows customers to open and close the boot using a simple kick gesture (although this is not universally popular amongst over-50s; balance issues make standing behind a vehicle on one leg, especially when holding parcels or packages, a potentially hazardous exercise). Inside the Mazda CX-9, the centre infotainment screen has been enlarged to nine inches.

Simplified access to the third row

In the third row, access has been made safer and easier with the implementation of a switch that tilts the seat forward on the side of the seat cushion where third row passengers, often children, can easily reach it. The addition of USB ports further improves third-row functionality.

Simplifying the range, Azami will replace Azami LE at the top end. The update sees an improved, smoother, higher-quality feel to the Azami’s Nappa leather seating offered in two colour options; Walnut Brown and Pure White (be warned that white leather interiors can be difficult to keep clean). Both options are combined with black to produce a two-tone pattern.

Plenty of room and a high quality interior

Exterior changes include a new brilliant dark 20-inch wheel finish and a new bright 18-inch wheel finish.

In line with updates across the Mazda range, the 2020 CX-9 also picks up a new key fob design and updated vehicle badging, both first introduced on Mazda3.

The updated Mazda CX-9 will be available at Mazda dealership nationwide from January 2020.
