Long-running Mitsubishi ASX to be replaced

MITSUBISHI HAS CONFIRMED THAT a new-generation Mitsubishi ASX will arrive in Australia in 2025.

Already on sale in Europe, the new-generation Mitsubishi ASX leverages the brand’s strong Alliance partnership to bring a sophisticated, stylish and technology-laden vehicle to the Australian market.

“The new Mitsubishi ASX blends thoroughly modern design and a dynamic driving experience to the next generation of ASX customers,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) CEO, Shaun Westcott.

“We look forward to sharing more details of this intriguing new SUV as we move closer to its market launch in 2025,” he said.

The next step in Momentum 2030

The latest-generation Mitsubishi ASX is the next step in the Momentum 2030 business plan outlined earlier this year by Takao Kato, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

Momentum 2030 outlined a product roadmap that detailed release of several new or significantly updated vehicles into Australia by decade’s end. This included a mix of electrified drivetrains, including battery electric vehicles, but also continued investment in combustion, Plug-In Hybrid and Hybrid technologies.

The first step in the plan was confirmation that Australia will receive a significantly updated Outlander range, including the PHEV, in 2025. The latter promises a larger battery and higher performance, as well as enhanced design, technology and connectivity. We will provide more details on this exciting new flagship model in due course.

These significant upgrades follow the introduction of the newest Triton; the value-packed Triton GLX-R Dual Cab Utility. This will be followed by additional Triton grades and body styles, including the Cab Chassis variant, in 2025.

Additionally, the recent acquisition of a five per cent stake in FleetPartners Group, an Australian fleet leasing company, further indicates MMC’s commitment to this region as sales channels and business opportunities continue to evolve.

“Mitsubishi Motors Australia is proud to remain a core market for the global Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. We look forward to enjoying this close working relationship further as we navigate to 2030 and beyond, offering Australians an impressive range of highly capable vehicles from a trusted brand,” said Westcott.

Enduring Mitsubishi models to end production due to updated Australian Design Rules

MMAL also confirms that current-generation ASX, Eclipse Cross, Eclipse Cross PHEV and Pajero Sport models have now ceased production.

This is due to new Australian Design Rules (ADR) regulations that take effect on 1 March 2025.

“Given the position of ASX, Eclipse Cross and Pajero Sport in their current life cycles, investment towards the re-engineering of these vehicles to incorporate the new ADRs was not commercially feasible,” said Westcott.

“As a result, Australian production of these vehicles has ended. This is not unprecedented; we have seen similar situations before, and our teams are well-prepared to manage this transition.

“We have worked closely with our dealer partners to ensure each model line will be ordered in sufficient quantities ahead of time. This will support our customers while we continue to confirm our future model plans as a core Mitsubishi market. We will announce these future models in due course,” he said.

Customers can be assured that servicing and parts requirements for the outgoing models will continue to be supported on an ongoing basis, via our expansive dealer network.
