THE POPULAR five and seven-seat Lexus RX is getting a mid-life refresh, arriving Q4 this year.
The facelift centres around suspension and body rigidity, plus a few minor cosmetic upgrades (that’s the current model shown above).
The suspension gets redesigned shock absorbers equipped with a new friction control that reduces vibrations caused by minor road imperfections. Lexus ride quality is already of a high order, so these improvements will help disguise the state of our roads even further. Increases to the rigidity of the RX chassis with thicker and stiffer hollow stabiliser bars, greater use of laser-screw welding, spot welding and high-strength adhesives have resulted in a sharper steering response.
The almost-obligatory cosmetic upgrades include slightly changed LED headlights, almost undiscernible changes to the grille, new L-shaped tail lights, restyled front and rear bumpers, new character lines and, of course, different 18-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels with new colour options.
More useful is new lighting technology that includes auto high beam and blade-scan technology that improves road illumination at night.
Once we have tested and assessed the new Lexus RX, seniordriveraus will bring you a comprehensive review, including everything the over-50 driver needs to know.
