Genesis joins the EV rush with GV60

THERE IS JUST NO STOPPING the rush to electric vehicles. Latest on the bandwagon is Genesis with the GV60, their first dedicated electric vehicle.

GV60 redefines mobility through its advanced long-range, rapid recharge battery-electric technology.

Luxurious, zero-emission GV60 delivers scintillating performance and a driving range of 470km (AWD variant), with the capability for ultra-rapid charging, from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

To our eyes, not its prettiest angle

The striking, coupe-like GV60 is smartly packaged around the EV-specific E-GMP architecture to provide a spacious and inviting interior that benefits from clever design elements such as a compact dash, flat floor, floating console and slim seats.

The GV60 is offered in highly equipped AWD and Performance AWD variants with an extensive standard Genesis Active Safety Control suite and futuristic technologies such as fingerprint recognition and digital mirrors, which replace physical side mirrors with cameras.

The GV60 is set to launch locally in September as the first of a trio of new Genesis EVs arriving this year.

The coupe-like profile is very pleasing

“We are delighted to introduce GV60, our first dedicated electric vehicle, as the beginning of Genesis Motor’s journey towards electrification,” Head of Genesis Motors Australia, Connal Yan said.

“In an exciting year for Genesis, GV60 will be the first of three EVs to launch locally in 2022, and will be closely followed by Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70.”

“GV60 applies the Genesis Athletic Elegance philosophy to provide an unprecedented luxury experience on a new dedicated electric platform that delivers all the powerful, emissions-free benefits of an advanced long-range, ultra-rapid charging EV,” he said.

Model line-up and pricing

GV60 will be offered in two fully specified variants – ‘AWD’ and ‘Performance AWD’ – each in a specification normally considered to be part of an optional Genesis Luxury Package.

As usual, the steep price will be a barrier to sales

The AWD delivers 234kW and 605Nm while the Performance AWD puts out 360kW and 700Nm. Both use a 77.4kW battery.

The AWD entry-level model will cost $103,700 (plus on road costs)while the Performance AWD starts from $110,700 (plus on road costs).

Included in the price is a choice of a five-year Chargefox subscription or a home AC charger including installation.
