RECALLS ARE BECOMING A WAY of life for many owners, not least Tesla owners.
More than 15,000 Tesla vehicles are being recalled in Australia for a fault that owners have been warned, “could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death”. So, no ambiguity there, then.
The recall is due to a software error that affects vehicle tail lights, including brake, reversing and rear indicator lights. “Due to a software error, the tail lamps on one or both sides may not illuminate as intended,” owners of almost 16,000 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y owners were warned. Should the fault occur in dark conditions, following vehicles will have reduced visibility and may not be able to see the vehicle.
The issue can be corrected with software and drivers have been urged to check if their vehicle requires a digital update.
The recall is the second for Tesla within a fortnight, after 1000 Tesla Model S and Model X cars were recalled over a steering fault on November 16. In the US, Tesla has recalled almost 30,000 Model X vehicles over a fault with the front passenger airbag system. Australian vehicles have not, as yet, been recalled.
And Ford SUVs recalled
Ford has recalled 634,000 sport utility vehicles worldwide after a risk of fire from cracked fuel injectors was discovered.
The vehicles affected are Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs (MY2020-2023) with three-cylinder 1.5-litre engines.
The recall follows an earlier recall in April because an oil separator housing could crack and develop a leak that could cause an engine fire. Those vehicles repaired under the earlier recall would still need to be inspected and fixed for the latest issue.
