CATERING TO THE EVER-INCREASING fans of large crew cab utes, Ford has added model upgrades and a wider choice of options to the Ranger line-up, including the return of the rugged Wildtrak X alongside upgraded Wildtrak and Ford Performance Ranger Raptor variants. Completing a refreshed line-up, the updated Rangers arrive in Ford dealerships across Australia this month.
“Ranger continues to adapt, grow and expand its offering, bringing more targeted, specific capabilities and attributes to Australian customers to help them meet any challenges they face,” said Ford Australia President and CEO, Andrew Birkic. “Now, with Ranger Wildtrak X, alongside upgraded Wildtrak and Ford Performance Ranger Raptor, customers can get even more out of their off-road adventures.”
With the hard-working Ranger XL, XLS and XLT recently bolstered with fresh options, including packages such as the XL Special Edition and Fully Loaded pack for XLT, the Ranger Wildtrak, returning Ranger Wildtrak X and Ford Performance Ranger Raptor will increase customer choices.
The Ranger Wildtrak X now benefits from the upgrades brought to Ranger Wildtrak for the 2020 model year, an even greater level of premium comfort, capability and convenience. This includes new high-performance Bi-LED headlights (replacing the previous HID, and square rather than round).
In comparable conditions, the Wildtrak X’s new high-performance Bi-LED headlights bring a significant gain in forward vision, with 17 percent greater lighting penetration on the road ahead, which increases to a 20 percent greater penetration when high-beam is in operation. Further benefits from the high-performance lighting include a brighter, white colour light beam that’s closer to daylight.
In addition to the high-performance lighting system, Wildtrak X now features a power roller shutter as standard. The new roller shutter can be activated three ways; via the key fob, a dash-mounted switch, or from a button within the Wildtrak X’s tub. The new design liberates additional load space, with an increase of 80mm opening length between the canister and the tailgate. The sleeker design also enables an increase of 20mm in height clearance over the current shutter.
In addition to Ranger’s updates, including FordPass Connect, the ‘X’ Factor for Wildtrak X sees a smart combination of functional features.
Ranger Wildtrak X offers more than $6000 (Ford’s figures) worth of components for only $2000, including:
- Unique 18-inch alloy wheels with +35 offset in tough matte black finish
- Fender flares, finished in black
- Black nudge bar, complete with an LED light bar
- A-pillar-mounted snorkel, which allows the Ranger Wildtrak X’s powertrain to breathe better on dusty roads, while reducing the risk of water entering the engine compartment so that owners can make the most of the Ranger’s best-in-class 800mm water wading capability
Reflecting the increasing call for even greater personalisation and wide array of customer choices, Wildtrak X – along with Wildtrak and Ranger XLT – now offers the first pearlescent exterior colour to be offered on a Ford Ranger. The fresh Alabaster White paintwork brings a warm, rich finish to the Ranger’s exterior as an alternative to the no-cost option Arctic White, which remains available across the Ranger line-up.
In addition, Ranger Raptor customers now benefit from a standard Tough Bed Spray-in Bedliner for greater durability, strength and usability when compared to a ‘drop in’ or aftermarket bed liner. This bedliner offers:
- Industrial-strength, two-part coating for long-lasting protection
- Factory-applied with automated precision to ensure a smooth, even coat
- Uniform, high-grip textured surface helps minimise load slippage, gouging and scratching
- Restricts moisture between the liner and the bed
- Meets rigorous Ford engineering specifications, including impact testing
- Retains Ford’s standard five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty
Since its introduction in 2018, the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor has been updated with features including an electric front-passenger seat to give both driver and passengers ease of adjustment, as well as upgraded Bi-LED headlighting.
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection was also standardised across the Ranger line-up – including the Ranger Raptor – in 2019, and most recently, the FordPass Connect embedded modem was rolled out across the range. This ‘connected car’ technology pairs with the FordPass smartphone app to unlock a range of new connected services and remote vehicle functions to simplify the Ranger ownership experience.
“I know that for many of our customers with a spirit of adventure, it’s heartening right now that their Ranger Raptor or Ranger Wildtrak is at the ready, so they can take full advantage of it once the current situation eases,” added Birkic.
“What’s more, we will be adding to what we offer in 2020 – not only with the updates to Ranger we’ve made this month, including FordPass Connect on every model, but with more lifestyle choices to take on that off-road adventure, to stand apart with the capability and assurance Ranger is known for.”
In addition to a five-year, unlimited kilometre full factory warranty, every Ranger is eligible for the Ford Service Benefits program, designed to keep customers on the road longer, at participating Ford dealerships. With long 15,000km/12-month service intervals, A and B log-book services for the first four years/60,000km are set at a maximum of $299 per service.
Ford Service Benefits also bring Ranger owners a Service Loan Car, Auto Club Membership including Roadside Assistance as well as sat-nav map updates.
The updated Ford Ranger Wildtrak, Ford Ranger Wildtrak X and Ford Performance Ranger Raptor are now available in Ford Australia showrooms.
