WITH ALMOST ALL OF ITS INITIAL allocation of 400 Born battery electric vehicles sold, Cupra has secured a further 200 cars for Australian customers to pre-order.
Some 35 Borns remain from the first allotment of 400 that went on sale in late December. Deliveries of Cupra’s halo car begin in April.
On Friday, Cupra’s factory signalled that an additional 200 Borns have been made available. These can be ordered online for delivery from later in 2023.
Cupra’s Born is priced at $59,990 (plus on road costs) – at parity with the Leon VZx turbo petrol and Leon VZe plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), giving buyers of the still-new challenger brand from Barcelona a unique choice of BEV/PHEV/ICE performance hatchbacks.
The Born combines class leading rear-wheel-drive driving dynamics and striking design with a 511km range.
Cupra Head of Product and Planning Jeff Shafer said that Cupra headquarters was making good on its promise at the brand’s launch in July 2022 to prioritise its newest market.
“Initially it was Cupra’s intention to cap pre-delivery orders at 400, but such has been the response that a further 200 Borns have allotted to Australia in the short term,” he said.
“We won’t at this stage estimate a total for 2023 Born sales, but there’s no doubt that this early reaction bodes well.”
Mr Shafer said that the brand would soon be in a position to announce further Leon and Formentor PHEVs. The first PHEV allocations sold through.
With the Born complementing the best-selling Formentor, the Leon and the Ateca, CUPRA Australia has moved beyond 2,100 customer orders.
