Biggest Hyundai SUV due early September

WITH CAR SUPPLIES AS ABOUT AS RELIABLE as a politician’s promises, dealers are anxiously awaiting new deliveries. One eagerly anticipated new model will be Hyundai’s big Palisade SUV.

The 2022 Palisade will be available in three trim grades, and due in dealerships from the start of September.

The spacious, safe and luxurious 2022 Palisade range expands from the previous two grades to incorporate a new Elite mid-level variant, which slots between revised Palisade (entry model) and Highlander variants.

Big and clearly aimed at the US market, but popular here too

2022 Palisade Model Range

New to the range is the mid-spec Elite at $61,500 (all prices plus on road costs) for the 3.8-litre GDi 2WD model. The Elite 2.2-litre CRDi AWD diesel model is $4000 more at $65,500. The top level Palisade continues as the Highlander with the 2.2-litre CRDi AWD diesel variant priced from $75,000 (as in 2021) and the 3.8-litre petrol GDi 2WD from $71,000 (again, at the same price as 2021). The entry level model (simply labelled the Palisade) drops the price of entry into the Palisade club to $55,000 for the petrol 2WD model and $59,000 for the AWD diesel variant.

Premium paint adds $695 to all three variants.

The Elite is new to the range

The Highlander gets additional features, including black Nappa leather, at no additional price over the 2021 figure. The Elite variant is $1500 more than the previous entry level Palisade but gets significant additional specification.

Interior takes aim at the luxury SUVs

The flagship 2022 Palisade Highlander brings a striking new premium look courtesy of body-coloured bumpers and side cladding, complemented by 20-inch Calligraphy alloy wheels. Available for the first time is a luxurious black Nappa leather interior cabin (no cost option), in addition the previous beige and burgundy offerings.

The new Elite variant also gets extra features, compared with the outgoing 2021 range-opener, and is available in seven- or eight-seater configuration.

Palisade Elite features a 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia unit with satellite navigation and 12-speaker Infinity Premium Audio, heated front seats, a single-panel glass sunroof, rear privacy glass, a smart power tailgate, and wireless smartphone charging.

There are also bright LED lights front and rear and stylish 20-inch alloy wheels.

Large exterior dimensions translate to generous interior space

The Palisade entry variant now features wireless smartphone charging (Qi standard) and an 8.0-inch multimedia system (in place of a 10.25-inch Infinity audio unit) in an appealingly priced eight-seater range-opener.

The continuing powertrain line-up sees each grade offered with a choice of 3.8-litre V6 petrol 2WD or 2.2-litre turbo-diesel AWD, both with an eight-speed automatic.

“Palisade has been revised to provide an even more enticing large SUV flagship for 2022, with a more accessible range-entry model, value-packed new Elite, and enhanced Highlander,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer Jun Heo said.

“Palisade continues to deliver an enticing blend of smart technologies and luxury features, in a seven- or eight-seater SUV package that is ideal for Australian families,” he said.
