WHETHER YOU EVER OWNED a Volkswagen Kombi or just hankered after one, the new models are sure to hit a retro nerve. VW Australia has announced the release (although in strictly limited numbers) of two new T6.1 models: the California Beach and the Multivan Cruise.
While the late 2020 arrival of Volkswagen’s updated range of vans and people movers has many customers excited for the introduction of the 6.1’s new EU6-compliant engines and raft of standard safety and infotainment, the announcement of the return of the iconic Camper Van as part of the range has certainly captured the public’s imagination.
As Australians can begin to once again plan weekends away exploring their own backyard, customers have a chance to own the very first new generation Camper, the California Beach, as a highly specified Limited Edition via online purchase on the Volkswagen Australia website.
With its unique two-tone paint and a raft of premium features, the vehicle will be the only fleet of Campers to arrive this year and in time for summer holidays.
The full California range will be available online to order from 1st August for 2021 delivery with a starting price of $82,990 plus on road costs. The bad news is that there will only be 30 of the Limited Editions ($94,990) released for purchase online from 10am, 24 June.
In addition, a limited-run, highly specified Multivan Cruise Limited Edition is also available to purchase online, also limited to just 30 units.
Harking back to the iconic Kombi Van, the Multivan Cruise model offers retro design elements with some of the latest in tech and features. Available in a single short wheelbase variant with a TDI340/7-speed DSG engine and transmission combination, the Cruise builds on the popularity of previous special edition Multivans such as the Kombi 70 Years and the Launch Edition from the T6 range.

Transporter Van Update
As previously detailed, the T6.1 range also includes Volkswagen’s venerable Transporter van range of workhorses. Due to factory restrictions derived from the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Australian vehicle arrivals have been delayed, with van models arriving around the same time as passenger vehicles in the range, from November. Customers awaiting ordered vehicles have been notified.
