THE PERFORMANCE SUV CATEGORY just keeps growing, and now Audi is preparing to welcome a new performance car for the very first time, with the Audi SQ2 scheduled to arrive in May. On sale in Europe for some years, the SQ2 has now been refreshed, and arrives in its own segment of the local compact SUV market.
“The Audi S3 has a revered place in Australian performance car folklore,” said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
“Its combination of agility, energetic performance, versatility and price positioning place it within reach of many enthusiasts – such is its proven popularity over the years.”
“In line with a general shift towards SUVs in Australia, including performance models, the Audi SQ2 arrives with substantial opportunity. We’re confident that its combination of pace and poise will see it emulate the success of other iconic S models throughout the Audi range,” said Mr Sansom.
The 2.0 TFSI engine produces 221kW/400Nm, catapulting the SQ2 to 100km/h from rest in a rapid 4.9 seconds. Power is channelled to the road via a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and the brand’s legendary quattro all-wheel drive for superb traction.
S sport suspension and progressive steering ensure handling is astonishingly good for a compact SUV, delivering all the thrills expected of such a sports car (is it a sports car? Or is it an SUV? The lines continue to blur).
The Audi SQ2 arrives with a starting price of $64,400 (plus on road costs), and as expected of such a model, it’s furnished with a generous level of standard equipment.
Exterior design highlights include distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels and Matrix LED headlights with dynamic indicators/light sequences and high-beam assist. Red brake calipers, quad tailpipes and the unique exterior styling add extra visual intent.
Inside, sport front seats in Fine Nappa leather with diamond patterned stitching, S embossing and contrasting seat colours, S sport leather steering wheel and numerous special design touches like the light graphics inlay, give the SQ2 an appropriate sense of occasion.
The 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit with S-specific display and 705W Bang & Olufsen premium sound system ensure the driver has a seamless interface with the car, while a suite of assistance systems aid the driver in all on-road environments.
The SQ2 is available in a range of 9 exterior colours and two interior colour combinations.
The Audi SQ2 is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms in May.
