Mercedes-Benz E-Class incorporates mild hybrid technology

MILD HYBRID TECHNOLOGY COMES to the prestigious E-Class range with the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz E 350 Sedan, Coupé and Cabriolet featuring EQ Boost, a 48-volt electrical system that adds extra power and can generate smoother response and improved fuel economy.

The new E 350 variant – available across all body styles – will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine featuring 220kW of power and 400Nm of torque, allied to a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission.

The addition of EQ Boost, a 48-volt integrated electric motor, assists the engine with up to an extra 10kW and 150Nm for short periods, enabling the four-cylinder to deliver the responsiveness of a larger engine. The combination propels the E 350 Sedan and Coupé variants from standstill to 100 km/h in a sprightly 5.9 seconds (Cabriolet: 6.1 seconds).

Immediately recognisable as a Mercedes-Benz

Additionally, EQ Boost utilises high-efficiency energy recuperation to supply power to the battery, making it possible to drive without the combustion engine (known as “sailing”). This makes fuel savings possible that were previously the exclusive domain of high-voltage hybrid technology. Combined cycle fuel economy is rated at 7.7L/100km for Sedan and Coupé models, and 7.8L/100km for the Cabriolet.

Generously appointed

The Mercedes-Benz E 350 in Sedan, Coupé or Cabriolet body style cossets the driver and passengers with standard AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension, a sophisticated multi-chamber system with continuously adjustable damping control on each individual wheel and automatic self-levelling to adjust to different loads.

The cabrio looks a little ungainly with the roof up

Additionally, the E 350 range is equipped with standard leather upholstery, MULTIBEAM LED headlights with 84 individually controllable LEDs and featuring Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, metallic paintwork and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels.

These exclusive additions are complemented by a generous high-tech specification that includes the MBUX widescreen cockpit featuring two 12.3-inch high-resolution digital displays with advanced multimedia functions including voice control, NTG6 navigation, touchscreen central display, smartphone integration via Apple Car Play or Google Android Auto, wireless charging for compatible mobile devices, and remote interactivity with numerous vehicle functions via the Mercedes me Connect smartphone app.

Other standard features include Parking Package with Active Parking Assist PARKTRONIC, KEYLESS-GO including hands-free access and keyless start, Nappa leather steering wheel featuring touch-sensitive capacitive panels and galvanised shift paddles, heated front seats with memory function and four-way lumbar support, open-pore black ash wood trim, and dual-zone climate control.

Interior is definitively Mercedes-Benz as well

A comprehensive safety package includes Driving Assistance Package Plus – featuring Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Route Based Speed Adaptation – plus a 360-degree Camera, Traffic Sign Assist, and PRE-SAFE PLUS and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side accident preparation systems.
