LDV large SUV now in diesel

VALUE FOR MONEY is a cornerstone of the LDV range and plenty of value-hunting buyers will be casting an eye over the new diesel variant of the D90 large SUV.

“We’re delighted to broaden our offering in the large SUV segment with the arrival of a diesel alternative,” says Dinesh Chinnappa, General Manager LDV Automotive.

“At over 120,000 units per annum, the Large SUV segment is significant and dominated by diesels. Now, with a powerful new bi-turbo diesel offering, our 7-seat D90 family SUV offers even greater versatility for our target market.”

The new D20 diesel unit is SAIC’s first in-house designed engine, a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo four cylinder producing 160kW and 480Nm, making it one of the most powerful diesel engines in its class, an important consideration for buyers with plans to do some heavy-duty towing.

Its small block design and electronically controlled, high-pressure common rail technology, combined with an all-new 8-speed ZF gearbox, give it outstanding power delivery, efficiency and low levels of NVH.

The D90 has one of the longest wheelbases and overall body lengths of its class, translating to plenty of space inside for up to seven adults.

Useable luggage space impresses, too with a massive 1800 litres with all the rear seats down, 1140 litres with the third row down, or a still useful 412 litres with all rows up.

As big as some much more expensive SUVs but much less expensive (this is a petrol D90)

Equipment levels are high, too with dualzone climate control, Apple CarPlay and smartphone connectivity, multiple USB ports and seven full-size leather seats.

Importantly, underpinning the D90 is a ladder rail chassis which, when combined with the superior power and torque of the D20 bi-turbo diesel, enhances the vehicle’s recreational capabilities.

Factor in a 3-tonne towing capability, the tried and tested 8-speed ZF auto transmission, Borg Warner transfer case, respectable ground clearance and the ability to dial into a range of 4WD settings thanks to LDV’s unique Terrain Selection system, and the diesel D90 is a go-anywhere weekender.

The D90 is also one of the most recently awarded 5-star ANCAP safety rated large SUVs.

Safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning and Fatigue Reminder.

“Our target market is hard-working Australian families. Now, more than ever, they need value for money, but they also still demand safety, quality, features and performance,” concludes Chinnappa.

“With childcare costs, rising energy bills, inflation, static wage increases and worries about the future, the family purse is being squeezed. Hardworking Australian families can’t afford to be flippant or wasteful with money. The new LDV D90 bi-turbo diesel fits the bill perfectly.”
