APRIL FOOL’S DAY hasn’t dissuaded Mitsubishi from introducing its popular micro car update for the Mirage.
The 2020 Mirage gets a new look and more safety gear.
“Customers looking for style and reliability will love the new 2020 Mirage. We have made some significant and thoughtful changes to improve the ownership experience. I believe we have addressed all the key areas which we know our customers value in this segment,” said Owen Thomson, Senior Manager for Product Strategy.
Small car…big road presence
In 2020, the Mirage has undergone significant updates to introduce Mitsubishi’s dynamic shield, sleek aerodynamic lines and chunky new bumpers with large, angular recesses on each corner to broaden its stance and give it a more solid front-on appearance.
The rear has a wider look and greater presence thanks to the squared-off treatment of the bumper corners and a colour-keyed rear spoiler and an LED high-mount stop lamp for increased safety. In addition, the LS gains new LED headlamps with headlamp levelling, LED daytime running lamps, and LED rear combination lamps.
New 15-inch alloy wheels on the LS give it increased on-road presence. And the 9.2m turning circle makes overall manoeuvrability and on-street parking easy.
The Mirage is powered by a responsive 1.2-litre MPI MiVEC petrol engine, which means great performance and excellent fuel economy, ensuring fewer trips to the service station and lower overall fuel costs. Its maximum power is 57kW at 6000rpm and maximum torque of 100Nm at 4000rpm.
There are two choices of transmission. The five-speed manual transmission is available on the ES model. Alternatively, on ES the optional automatic (CVT) transmission allows the car to move efficiently based on the driving condition. The LS is only fitted with a CVT transmission.
Small enough for city parking, big enough to be your daily drive
The Mirage may be a small car, but it is big enough for the daily drive. A five-seat compact car, it also has flexible rear seats to allow additional cargo room when the driver needs to carry additional luggage. Capacity is 235 litres with normal configuration or 599 litres with the rear seats folded. A cargo cover is standard, along with a 12V accessory socket in the rear.
The revised interior includes Mitsubishi’s 7-inch smartphone display link audio with DAB, Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto and hands-free voice control.
The ES also sees the introduction of a combination meter with ambient temperature display, and the LS has additional high contrast meter added.
More safety gear
Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) and rear-view camera now come standard across the range, and the LS also gains Lane Departure Warning (LDW) technology.
Mirage LS
Stepping up from the ES, the LS grade brings additional style and convenience with new 15-inch alloy wheels with two-tone diamond-cut styling, climate control air conditioning, cruise control, rear privacy glass, LED headlamps (with automatic high beam), daytime running lamps and rear lamps.
