Kia’s new small SUV gets a name

KIA MOTORS HAS ANNOUNCED that the name of its new global compact SUV is to be Seltos and it will be launched in the (northern hemisphere) summer.

The name, according to Kia, is inspired by Greek mythology, picking up on the name Celtos, the son of Hercules.

However, we don’t know why we’re telling you any of this because Kia insists the Seltos has been created for the “millennial generation”, clearly not the usual readership of seniordriveraus. Instead, we are told, the Seltos is “aimed at youthful, tech-savvy buyers”. At least this descriptor allows over-50s with a young attitude to include themselves in the target audience.

The Seltos will offer sophisticated exterior design details, such as its long hood, a strong, character line on the front bumper, and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork. Its robust shoulder line, matched with a glasshouse which tapers towards the rear of the car, as well as a rear bumper with a metallic muffler effect, “lends the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness”.

The cabin is characterized by broad, sweeping shapes and highly technical details. Equipped with a range of technologies to maximize convenience, connectivity and ease of use, the bold design of the cabin will incorporate a high-tech 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Sound Mood Lighting.

Kia Motors is extending its range of SUVs to fulfill the needs of customers in every market, with the Kia Seltos to be revealed later this month. Sales in Korea and other regions to follow in the second half of 2019.

Once we have tested and assessed the new Kia Seltos, seniordriveraus will bring you a comprehensive review, including everything the over-50 driver needs to know.
