THE ALL-NEW, THIRD-GENERATION VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan medium SUV will arrive in Australia in May with a feature-rich and value-packed range complementing significant increases in premium cabin design, materials and quality.
The all-new Tiguan for the first time becomes a ‘mini Touareg’ in terms of the way it looks and feels inside and out, with Volkswagen pursuing class-leading material choice and new levels of technology – all with a value focus.
Volkswagen’s latest Tiguan range includes the 110TSI Life and 110TSI Elegance that offer 250Nm of torque to ensure a level of efficiency, refinement and performance that exceeds that of naturally aspirated four-cylinder rivals.
The all-new 110TSI Life features standard 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless access with alarm, power tailgate, Area View 360-degree camera, Digital Cockpit Pro (widescreen driver display), 12.9-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless smartphone charging and DAB+ digital radio.
Volkswagen’s leading Travel Assist (incorporating adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist for semi-autonomous and stop-and-go driving), Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring and Side Assist with rear traffic alert are also standard.
They join side exit warning, front cross-traffic assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning with swerve support, Park Assist Plus (with semi-autonomous steering and throttle/braking to park), 9 airbags (including centre) and – following the Touareg and Amarok’s lead – Dynamic Road Sign Assist.
The all-new 110TSI Elegance targets private buyers who may not have previously considered a Tiguan, combining a torque-rich and refined engine with luxury specification never seen before on a Volkswagen medium SUV.
The Tiguan Elegance adds chrome roof rails and trim, rear privacy glass, LED Plus headlights with illuminated grille strip, LED tail-lights with illuminated centre strip, leather-appointed seat upholstery, plus front comfort sport seats with power adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage.
Available fully optioned with panoramic sunroof and a Sound & Vision package (with head-up display and Harman/Kardon premium audio), the 110TSI Elegance will target flagship naturally aspirated four-cylinder rivals while offering greater appeal.
Volkswagen head of Product and Marketing Nathan Johnson said the all-new Tiguan 110TSI will broaden the Volkswagen customer base again with a dual strategy – a premium focus and a value focus.
“Volkswagen TSI engines have long out-performed several medium SUVs with old-tech engines, and now we can deliver our more refined all-new Tiguan with luxury specification and outstanding customer value,” Mr Johnson said.
“With its ‘mini Touareg’ interior and appointments, the all-new Tiguan proves that value and elevated appeal can coexist – long a Volkswagen hallmark.”
The all-new Tiguan Elegance, as well as the Tiguan R-Line, will be available with a 150TSI, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, delivering 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds.
Together they replace the existing, popular 132TSI and 162TSI 4MOTION variants in the range. This 150TSI Elegance and 150TSI R-Line appeal to all Tiguan customers who love the Volkswagen medium SUV for its performance and dynamic appeal – now with more technology and luxury than ever.
The 150TSI Elegance adds the Sound & Vision package, HD Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high-beam, LED Plus rear tail-lights with dynamic indicators, 15.0in Discover Pro Max navigation and adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro).
The 150TSI R-Line will slot in under the Elegance as a signpost for sporty dynamics and an assertive, edgy character.
R-Line is traditionally the most popular Tiguan specification, and it builds on 110TSI Life equipment with an R-Line bodykit, unique 19in alloys, LED Plus headlights, premium LED tail-lights with dynamic indicators, sports seats with integrated headrest and sports cloth upholstery, DCC Pro, progressive steering – plus an optional panoramic sunroof and Sound & Vision package.
For the first time the R-Line will be available in flagship Tiguan 195TSI guise, succeeding the popular, outgoing Tiguan R.
Combining 195kW of power and 400Nm of torque, the 2.0-litre turbo sets a new standard for a mix of luxury and performance unlike anything else in the market – including 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.
The Tiguan 195TSI R-Line combines the looks and feel of the 150TSI R-Line with the luxury specification of the 150TSI Elegance, plus its own appointments, featuring: 20in Leeds alloy wheels, leather appointed upholstery, front comfort sport seats electrically adjustable with memory, heating, ventilation and massage, heated steering wheel, 15in Discover Pro Max navigation, head-up display, HD Matrix LED headlights, dynamic light assist, premium LED tail lights with dynamic indicators, Harman/Kardon premium audio and more.
Mr Johnson said the 150TSI and 195TSI are the variants that most evoke the look, feel and drivability that Tiguan and Touareg customers love.
“With chassis technologies such as DCC Pro, the stronger MQB Evo platform and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the top all-new Tiguans are unsurpassed in the market for premium appeal, performance and dynamics,” he said.
“The step between 110TSI, 150TSI and 195TSI are clear and ensure the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan offers broad and significant medium SUV appeal.”
