THE NEXT-GENERATION VOLKSWAGEN MULTIVAN will arrive in early 2025 with a new level of drivability, versatility and technology including a high level of specification as standard for the all-new seven-seater.
From tri-zone climate control air-conditioning, to dual power sliding side doors and a power tailgate, the all-new Multivan Life perfectly complements the more compact Caddy Maxi Life and the fully electric ID. Buzz seven seaters.
Now riding on Volkswagen’s acclaimed passenger car platform shared with the Golf and Tiguan – called MQB – the Multivan delivers a new benchmark in people mover drivability including the comfort of a 17-inch wheel and tyre package.
An efficient and refined 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine combines 360Nm of torque, 110kW of power and 6.4L/100km (in combined cycle testing) with an 80-litre fuel tank for up to 1200km range.
A totally new cabin concept elevates the level of interior quality and technology while offering innovative storage solutions and flexibility – such as the choice (front-middle-rear row) of 2-0-0, 2-2-3, 2-3-2 or even 2-1-3 set ups.
The new modular, multifunction seat system includes individual seat weight reduced by 25 percent and the possible configurations are extensive – 2 seats only with seats 3 to 7 removed; 4 seats with 2 front and 2 on the left or right of the vehicle only; 5 seats with 2 front and 3 middle configuration; 6 seats with 2 front, 1 centre and 3 rear; or 7 seats with 2-2-3 or 2-3-2 configuration.
The intelligent seating design also includes power adjustable lumbar support for the front seats, folding tables on the front seat backrests, removable and repositionable second row armrests, a trio of individually movable third row seats, drawers under the outer seats in the passenger compartment – plus a load compartment partition and waste bins.
Keyless entry and start, surround lighting for the tailgate, 30 colour interior ambient lighting including second row footwell lamps, a Digital Cockpit and 10-inch centre touchscreen include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8 speakers and 6 USB-C ports including 4 for rear passengers are all standard.
New standards of safety include dual front, centre front, front side and curtain airbags extending to all three rows of seats, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, semi-autonomous Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Side Wind Assistant, Multi Collision Brake, Emergency Assist, Side Assist with rear traffic alert, LED headlights with Light Assist, Park Assist with front and rear sensors and autonomous emergency braking with oncoming vehicle braking when turning.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles head of product and marketing Michelle Rowney said the new Multivan will appeal to families who value high efficiency and technology, and advanced people mover engineering.
“The all-new Multivan takes the people mover away from being commercial van based and rides on a platform renowned as being a benchmark for steering, ride and handling,” Ms Rowney said.
“Including a long-range diesel fuel tank, it is this new standard of drivability that meets increased seven-seat functionality and the highest level of interior and safety technology in the next-generation Volkswagen Multivan.
“We will directly target flagship versions of the top selling seven seaters in the Australian market with this highly specified, engineering high watermark.”
Pricing and optional equipment will be communicated by Q1 2024.
The Volkswagen Multivan range will then be expanded in Q3 2025 with an even more highly specified Style variant featuring a second powertrain option.
